ENCORE Registration

 

Welcome to ENCORE!

All students are required to take Health and Physical Education (PE). Students in 6th grade will have the option to take Band, which is a yearlong elective, or to select the Encore rotation option. If the Encore Rotation option is selected, students will be randomly placed in a quarterly rotation of the Encore courses listed below, with the exception of band.

 

 

 

6th Grade - Course Descriptions

 

Band is a YEARLONG course. If you choose band, you will be scheduled in the band ENCORE class every quarter of the 2026 - 2027 school year and must remain in the class for the entire school year.

Band - Divided into two sections: Woodwinds and Brass. Beginning Band students will be matched to a specific instrument. Students will learn to play and perform various styles of music, as well as learning how to maintain the quality of the instrument.

Introduction to Office Productivity - This course is composed of instructional modules designed to provide hands-on instruction in basic keyboarding skills, computer concepts, and software applications, including word processing, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Intro to Spanish -  This is an introduction to Hispanic Culture and language. Students will practice basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish. They will have a brief overview of Hispanic culture, learn to talk about themselves and other people. Students will be able to communicate their likes, dislikes, age, and birthday. Students will participate in culture-inspiring activities and learn how to use Spanish in everyday life.

Intro to Art - Students will explore the color wheel, works and styles of well-known artists, elements of design, artistic skills and techniques, and the use of different media in art. They will create two-dimensional compositions (printmaking, printing, drawing, pastels) and three-dimensional compositions (sculpture).  Students will experience the creative process and learn problem-solving skills to create their own works of art.

Computer Discoveries I - This course is all about exploring and discovering the main concepts of Computer Science and technology. Students will learn about computing systems, how to build simple to more complex algorithms, how to problem-solve and so much more. Students will make connections and see how Computer Science relates to all other industries along with investigating career paths. Students will learn how each computing language translates into animation, sounds, text, and solutions.

Exploring Childcare - The American Red Cross Babysitting Basics curriculum will be integrated throughout this course to introduce students to children's developmental ages and stages from birth to 7 years and related career opportunities. Through hands-on activities, students will practice basic care of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and discuss proper nutrition. Students will understand how to prevent accidents and how to use positive guidance while working with children. Students will learn the importance of well-prepared and trained babysitters and how to prepare for the diverse responsibilities of being a babysitter. At the end of this course, students will have the opportunity to complete the final exam. Students will receive a printable certificate upon successful completion of the course and examination.
