HiRMS Director of Bands
Jimie Maley grew up and found his passion for music just down the road in Concord, NC. After graduating from Jay M. Robinson High School, Mr. Maley attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to pursue a degree in music education. There, he studied saxophone under Dr. Will Campbell and Dr. Ben Still, and conducting under Dr. Hunter Kopczynski. During his time there, he nourished a love for education and earned a Bachelor of Music Education. He also earned an undergraduate certificate in Jazz Studies.
Mr. Maley serves as a counselor at Cannon Music Camp, hosted annually by Appalachian State University. He also spent two years as the Ensemble Manager for the Youth Orchestras of Charlotte, and later served as Interim Executive Director.
Mr. Maley completed his student teaching with Chris White and David Rivero at Hickory Ridge High School in the fall of 2024. In Spring 2025, Mr. Maleyworked as an assistant director for the Hickory Ridge Middle School Band as well as the Weddington Middle School Band. During this period, he directed the Hickory Ridge “Blue Note” Jazz band, and assisted a total of four ensembles in preparation for MPA, Carowinds, and the Charleston (SC) Music Festival.
Currently, Mr. Maley is the Director of Bands at Hickory Ridge Middle School. He is elated to work with his wonderful students each day, and loves nothing more than guiding them to their love of music.
